De La Salle Rolls At Islanders Field
Spartans beat Tracy 13-2 in the first high school game at River Islands in over a year.
High school baseball returned in a big way to Islanders Field over the weekend.
Powerful De La Salle improved to 2-0 early in the season with a 13-2 nonleague win over Tracy on Saturday, March 27.
The Spartans flexed their muscle in the first high school game in over a year at the new ballpark because of the statewide shutdown of youth sports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
De La Salle starter Johnny Burns worked four shutout innings, allowing two hits, striking out four and walking two.
The Spartans broke the game open quickly with four runs in the first inning en route to an 8-0 lead over three innings.
Liam Little and Caleb Chance paced the De La Salle offense, each with two hits in two at-bats and two RBIs. Little scored three times and Chance scored twice.
Spartans relievers limited the Bulldogs to two runs and two hits.
For Tracy, Shane Bowen was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
The highly regarded Spartans are ranked No. 4 in the state, No. 2 in the North Coast Section and No. 1 in NCS Division I, according to maxpreps.com.
