Driver Who Died In Christmas Eve Crash Identified As Antioch Man

The 36-year-old man died at the scene of the crash, police said.

ANTIOCH, CA — A driver who died in a Christmas Eve crash in Antioch was identified by the Contra Costa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office as 36-year-old Ahkeen Carter. Authorities say emergency medical personnel pronounced Carter deceased at the scene of the crash, which involved only his car.

The fatal crash was reported at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24 at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Golden Bear Drive — north of Lone Tree Way and west of state Highway 4 — according to a statement from Antioch police Cpl. Jason Vanderpool.

"Citizens reported witnessing a vehicle collide into a tree," Vanderpool said. "According to witnesses, the vehicle was weaving through traffic and traveling at an extremely high rate of speed prior to the collision."

Carter, an Antioch resident, was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

Antioch PD's preliminary investigation indicated Carter was driving at a speed of approximately 80 mph in a 45-mph zone, Vanderpool said.
