CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A fatal crash Monday on Highway 4 in Brentwood is being attributed to a suspected impaired driver, the California Highway Patrol said on social media. The Contra Costa CHP was advised of a head-on collision between two vehicles on eastbound Highway 4 east of Balfour Road about 4:35 p.m. Monday and determined that a 2018 Honda SUV went over the solid, double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic.

The Honda hit a 2013 Toyota Corolla head on, killing the driver, a 51-year-old man from Ripon who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Honda, a Concord man, 46, was uninjured and was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, CHP Contra Costa said in recounting the incident on its Facebook account.
