"New" Youth Theatre Program Opens at Diablo Theatre Company

Don’t be fooled. SingOut has been around a long time.

The Youth Theatre Company, which rehearsed at the Shadelands Arts Center in Walnut Creek, has provided an opportunity for students to express themselves in the world of musical theatre for fourteen years. But they haven’t made their final exit. A quick costume change provides a new logo and a new location, but the heart of the company is the same...the same staff, the same schedule, the same great family feel, and the same great shows. SingOut! is now the resident youth theatre company of the storied Diablo Theatre Company!

SingOut! is a stepping-stone program that offers opportunities for students Kindergarten through high school.

Mini-Kids, for ages 5 and 6, has three ten-week sessions. Parents can choose either the Wednesday or Friday class. Classes meet from 3:30 to 4:15 PM. Session 1 starts on September 30th (Wednesday class) or October 2 (Friday class) and culminates with a performance on December 9th (Wednesday class) and December 11th (Friday class).

Kids Theatre is for ages 7-12 also has three ten-week sessions, and two classes to choose from (also on Wednesday or Friday). Classes meet from 4:15 to 6:00 PM. In session 1, students will perform in Snow White and in session 2, Robin Hood. In session 3, students will perform as ensemble members in Seussical Jr. with the Mini, Junior, and Teen Theatre students. Session 1 starts on September 30th (Wednesday class) or October 2 (Friday class) and culminates with a performance on December 9th (Wednesday class) and December 11th (Friday class).

Junior Theatre is for grades 6-8 and is by audition only. They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 PM and will perform two main stage shows, Guys and Dolls, Jr. and Seussical, Jr. Auditions are being held September 8th and rehearsals begin on September 15.

Teen Theater is for grades 9-12 an is by audition only. They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM and will perform in a solo showcase and in the musical Bye Bye Birdie. They will also travel to Los Angeles for the Musical Theatre Competitions of America festival in February. Auditions are being held September 8th and rehearsals begin on September 15.

All rehearsals take place at the Diablo Theatre Company’s Firehouse, at 1948 Oak Park Blvd. in Pleasant Hill.
