Nuri Family Remembered One Year After Fatal Crash

A vigil was held Sunday evening at the intersection where Solaiman Nuri and 9-year-old daughter Hadees lost their lives on April 7 last year.

Mourners gathered at Treat Boulevard by Oak Grove Road Sunday evening to remember a fatal accident that tore a Concord family apart.

, killing the father and his 9-year-old daughter Hadees. Hannah Nuri, 13, survived.

The driver was a 17 year old who sped through a yellow light, accelerating to 71 mph in the 45-mph zone and dodging around two cars before hitting the family. He is currently serving his sentence in a juvenille detention facility.

Stoorai Nuri, wife and mother, wept on the sidewalk at the vigil Sunday evening in Concord. "You're never OK, " she told the Contra Costa Times.

The city has installed a bench in honor of the Nuri family at Ygnacio Valley Park, and another bench will be dedicated Monday at Woodside Elementary School remembering 9-year-old Hadees, who was a student at the school.
