Patch Picks: Super Sunday Hot Spots
A look at some of the best places to watch the Super Bowl in the Concord/Clayton area.
Welcome to one of our new weekly features — Patch Picks. Each week, we'll list the best five of something around town. This week, with the Steelers and Packers playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday, what to list was a no-brainer. Here are five of the best spots to watch the big game in the Concord/Clayton area:
1. (6200 Center St., Clayton) — Few restaurants in the area have a better sports atmosphere than Ed's. With sports memorabilia everywhere and televisions covering the walls, it's one of the best places in the East Bay to watch any sporting event. But if you don't already have a reservation for Sunday, it might be tough. As of Monday, there were only about dozen spots left. But, for the lucky ones who get in, Ed's Mudville Grill will offer drink specials and giveaways after every score. (Note: If you can't make it in, I (Patrick Creaven) will be blogging about the Super Bowl live from Ed's Mudville Grill.)
2.  (4050 Port Chicago Highway, Concord) — It costs $35 to reserve a spot at Legends for the big game, but included in the price is unlimited food, from appetizers to dinners to deserts. And Legends has more than 30 TVs so there isn't a bad seat in the house. Reserve your spot by calling  925-687-4111.

3. (2151 Salvio St., Concord) — It's an all-day Super Bowl happy hour at EJ Phair's, with draft beer and glasses of wine $1 off and $2 off appetizers. There are three 50-inch TVs and a surround-sound system that will assure you hear every bone-crunching hit.
4. (2045 Mount Diablo St., Concord) — With room for more than 300 people, the atmosphere at Vinnie's should be sensational. Barbecue will cost $7, with ribs, chicken and beef available. As always, there are pool tables, and dartboards. "It's going to be a really good time," bartender Landon Hathaway said.

5. (1508 Kirker Pass Road, Clayton) — Tables will be cleared from the dining area and the restaurant will project the championship on the back wall. Also, the game happens during happy hour. Raffles and prizes will be part of the fun.
