Carey Shands Lane, 82, Vermont Resident, Graduate of CHS

Carey Shands Lane, who graduated from Coronado High School in her journeys as part of a Navy family, died April 17 in West Brattleboro, VT, according to Legacy.com.

She was 82.

After leaving Coronado, she attended MacMurray College in Illinois, and was named valedictorian when she graduated in 1953. She received a masters degree in education from Gallaudet University.

In her travels with her Navy family, then with her late husband, Lane lived in China, the Philippines, Florida, Rhode Island, Washington D.C. and Connecticut, before settling in Vermont.

The one-time preschool teacher enjoyed reading, cooking baking, going barefoot and birding. She was a mother of four and grandmother of nine.
