Safety Alert: Big Waves, Rip Currents Expected Through Saturday
Swells are expected to peak Thursday and Friday.

Big waves and strong rip currents will create dangerous swimming conditions in Coronado and other local beaches through Saturday, meteorologists said.
"A long-period south swell will ... peak Thursday and Friday, and fade Saturday," according to the National Weather Service. "Due to the long period of the swell, large surf is expected for south- and southwest- facing beaches.
The surf and tide fluctuations will also produce very strong rip currents and longshore currents, which will lead to beach erosion.
"The agency issued a high surf advisory from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Saturday, saying four to seven-foot waves, with local sets up to 10 feet, were likely.
