Disabled Navy Iraq Veteran Gets Major League Tryout in Arizona
Daniel "Doc" Jacobs has beaten the odds after facing 50 surgeries to recover from his war injuries and he wants to be an example so Americans see that wounded vets can thrive.
A Navy Corpsman who lost part of his leg in an explosion in Iraq received a major league tryout during spring training in Arizona, according to the Sporting News.
Daniel “Doc” Jacobs went to the Los Angeles Dodgers' training camp at the invitation of former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda. The war veteran joined a group of 80 other major league hopefuls Thursday in Glendale, AZ.
He was so badly injured in the 2006 explosion that he required 50 surguries during his recovery, the report said.

He called the invite “a dream come true,” but told Fox News he had a more important goal.
“My bigger mission is to show America that wounded veterans are still here,” he said. “And we're not going to lay down and be a statistic.”

Jacobs also got to throw out the first pitch during the Dodgers' game against the Los Angeles Angels.
