Laser Weapons? Drone Subs? Navy Says Yes
The head of the Office of Naval Research tells Wired magazine what innovations are on the horizon.

Innovations are speeding ahead for the Navy, according to a new article in Wired magazine about what lies ahead, including laser weapons on ships and drone submarines.
Rear Admiral Matthew Klunder, who heads the Arlington, VA.-based Office of Naval Research, explained that laser weapons could be placed on ships within two years, half the most recent estimate of when the technology might be ready.
While drone planes have become familiar weapons and spy craft, the Navy estimates that in four years, a test run for drone submarines will be able to stay below the ocean's surface for two months or more.
