Navy Helps Rescue 5 People From Boat Near Coronado Bridge

Three children were among those helped from the boat, about two miles south of the bridge.

The Coast Guard, Navy and Harbor Police aided five people Thursday when a boat began to take on water in San Diego Bay about two miles south of the Coronado bridge, according to NBCSanDiego.com.

A call for aid came from the occupants of the boat around 3:30 p.m., authorities said. Three children were aboard the 16-foot vessel, which also capsized.

Crews, including a private boater, rescued all those aboard, and no injuries were reported. The boater removed the three children from danger before the rescuers arrived.

Two adults remained aboard, trying to keep it from sinking, Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Gawrelli said. Harbor police pulled them from the water after they failed and the boat capsized.

The Coast Guard remained with the boat until it could be towed by a commercial salvage company.
