North Island Runway Closure: Naval Base Coronado Noise Advisory

Residents of Coronado and San Diego may be affected, base officials said.

CORONADO, CA — The closure of Runway 18/36 at Naval Air Station North Island began Monday in support of Fleet Week San Diego 2016 and the Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival and is expected to continue until noon on Thursday, Sept. 22.

As a result, base officials said, all fixed-wing aircraft with fly in and out of Runway 29/11, which means residents of Coronado and San Diego may see an increase in flight operations during the closure.

"The Navy recognizes the importance of being good neighbors with the local communities and makes every effort to abate noise when possible," base officials said in a statement.

Flight operations at NASNI/OLF may be conducted around the clock, seven days a week. Flights originating/heading to Naval Base Coronado installations operate in a wide airspace radius and, like civilian aircraft, military planes are not limited to where they can fly.

Concerns or comments about the event can be submitted via Naval Base Coronado's website.
