San Diegans Outraged Over Radio Host's Suicide Tweet

Kevin Klein, host of "Kevin Klein Live," posted a photo on Twitter of the Coronado bridge with the word "JUMP."

SAN DIEGO, CA -- San Diego County residents are outraged after a radio host, whose new show will air in the region this week, recently posted a photo on Twitter possibly referencing the number of suicides that have happened on the Coronado bridge.

Kevin Klein, host of "Kevin Klein Live," which will air on 97.3 beginning Thursday, posted a photo on Twitter of the Coronado bridge with the word "JUMP" at the top of the photo and the words "to a new morning show" at the bottom of the photo.

The San Diego County landmark, which connects the Coronado island with the city of San Diego, has been a hotspot for suicidal people with more than 400 people killing themselves off the bridge. Ironically, Klein's tweet come as officials work to create barriers on the bridge that could prevent suicides.

Just days after the photo sparked outrage among San Diegans, Klein released a statement apologizing for the "distasteful and insensitive social media post."

"I know I've upset many people in America's Finest City, and this is something I regret," Klein said. "The comment was reprehensible and inexcusable. I've failed at making a good first impression, but I hope that you will give me another chance to provide entertainment and good natured laughs when I go on air Thursday morning. Once again, I apologize to all the listeners and to the city of San Diego."

The post was deleted from the Twitter account at the time of this story, but several news outlets took a screenshot of the photo.

Among the critics of the social media post was the San Diego Padres, which entered into an agreement with Entercom, the company that airs "Kevin Klein Live."

"We find the comments made last night by Entercom's employee offensive, insenstive and complete unacceptable," the team said in a statement. "Mental illness and suicide are not joking matters. Additionally, we've expressed our concerns to Entercom around the tone and direction of the station they have chosen to create."
