James C. Christensen, Culver City Native and Renown Painter, Dead at 74.

Christensen died from complications of cancer in Utah.

CULVER CITY, CA — James C. Christensen, a Culver City native and a renowned religious and fantasy painter, died Sunday in Utah, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. He was 74.

He died from complications of cancer, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Christensen was born on Sept. 26, 1942, in Culver City. He attended UCLA after his two-year mission to Uruguay for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. After his graduation, Christensen moved to Utah where he received his graduate degree from Brigham Young University.

Christensen taught there for 21 years. His works have been featured in shows and publications such as Spectrum, American Illustration Annual and Japan's Outstanding American Illustrators, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

He is survived by his wife, Carole, and their five children, including artists Cassandra Christensen Barney and Emily Christensen McPhie.
