Losing a Loved One Puts Everything into Perspective

Death is never easy. The loss of my older sister has taught me many things.

We are all at the age when we are starting to lose the ones we love. It could be a mother; it could be a sister, brother or a father. It could be a dear friend or a pet.

It just comes with the territory, losing the ones we love. As many of you know, I lost my older sister Lynn to cancer a few days ago. Her battle for 1.5 years was an arduous one. Cancer is not very kind and it takes its toll not only on the one afflicted, but on all of those who are close.

We are reminded with the death of a loved one, how important it is to live your life, and to live it grandly. None of us knows how much time we have on this earth, and it’s important to extract the essence out of every day, if you can.

I do some volunteer work at a local senior center, and I see all types of people battling various conditions. Yet, they get up, they dressed up, and they show up, and rarely complain about those afflictions that plague them. They are happy to be alive.

As for me, the death of my sister reminds me that we are all mortal. There is no escaping death. Your time will come and so will mine.

Instead of lamenting the past and worrying about the future. I am trying to stay in the moment as best I can, and appreciate what I am still able to do.

I’m not always successful but at least I try.
