OBIT: Dale Jones, former Chief Admin Officer of Culver City

A local memorial service is planned for Saturday.

The city of Culver City will join members of the Culver City Community in a memorial service in honor of the memory of Dale Jones (born Harry Dowe Jones), the city’s former Chief Administrative Officer who passed away on Aug. 25 at his home in Maricopa, Ariz.

The memorial will be held on Saturday, Sept.13, beginning at 10 a.m. in the courtyard of Culver City Hall located at 9770 Culver Blvd. Members of the public are invited to celebrate the life of Mr. Jones and recall his numerous contributions to the city he loved very much.

Mr. Jones joined the City in the Budget and Purchasing Office in December, 1960. He rose to the position of Chief Administrative Officer in August, 1969 and served in that capacity until his retirement in December, 1991.

In addition to his service as a City employee, he focused his broader community service on the Culver City Jaycees, Culver City Lions Club, Culver-Palms Family Y.M.C.A and the Culver City Sister City Committee. He was instrumental in creating a partnership with La Casa Hogar orphanage in Culver City’s Sister City of Uruapan, Mexico.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, his sons and daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
