OBIT: Rick Hudson, Chair on Culver City's Parks Commission

On Aug. 9, 2014, Parks, Recreation and Community Service Commission Chair Rick Hudson passed away unexpectedly at the age of 61, while at his family’s ranch in New Mexico. In addition to being the successful owner of Culver Glass, Chair Hudson was a tireless advocate for the young people of Culver City. He was a volunteer high school athletics coach and an active member of the Culver City Exchange Club. He also served the Culver City Community as a member of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission and was serving as the Commission’s Chair at the time of his passing.

A celebration of Chair Hudson’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at the lower Little League field at Culver City Park, Bill Botts Fields, located at Jefferson Boulevard and Duquesne Avenue. The celebration will be followed directly by refreshments and further remembrances at the Garden Room at Culver City’s Veterans Auditorium located at the corner of Culver Boulevard and Overland Avenue.

Saturday’s celebration is open to the public. This commemoration and remembrance on behalf of Chair Hudson is organized in partnership with the Exchange Club of Culver City. If you have a photo or memory of Chair Hudson, the organizers encourage you to share it at the events.

Rick Hudson is survived by his wife Terri, his daughter Cassie (married to Keith Evans, Jr.), daughter Heather, and son Travis along with his grandchildren Keith Evans III, Aundrea Lynn, and Layla Marie.

“The city mourns with great sadness the passing of Rick Hudson. On behalf of the entire City, my colleagues and I on the City Council send sincerest condolences to Rick’s family,” said Culver City Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells. “Everyone who had the pleasure of calling Rick a friend knew his sincere and passionate commitment to Culver City, especially to the youth of our community. His unexpected passing has taken one of the most strident advocates for youth from our City. His warmth of heart, welcoming smile, and gentle spirit will be sorely missed.”

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family urges that donations be made payable in the name of Rick Hudson to the Charitable Foundation of the Exchange Club of Culver City, where a youth scholarship in Rick’s name will be established.
