Our Town Takes You Back In Time

It's easy to forget the simplicity and importance of the little things

In this frenetic age of selfies and texting, it’s nice to have a reprieve from our speedy lives. If you’re yearning for a slower pace, head to the Westchester Playhouse to see the current production of OUR TOWN.

Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning classic comes to the Kentwood stage with a dramatic restaging. The sparse set designs and creative sound effects take the viewer on an imaginative journey into the lives of the residents in the small town of Grover’s Corners.

This “great American play” pays homage to many important lessons from which we can all learn. OUR TOWN was first produced in 1938 and its message still holds true today.

I recognized many Kentwood regulars, who are always so talented. But on a personal note, I was glad to see my pal Eddie Ed O’Brien in a dramatic role. Known for his crazy comical antics, it was illuminating to see Eddie playing Simon Stimson, bringing this challenged character to life.

Shari Barrett, appearing in a small cameo role, also displayed her multiple talents behind the scenes as stage manager of the production. Her writing chops are also well known throughout the theatrical community.
