Public School Features Several New Happy Hour Items

Having lived in Culver City for about 30 years, it’s been exciting seeing restaurants flourish in the downtown area. One that comes to mind is Public School, which has been around for about seven years.

Public School is a chef-driven gastropub serving exclusively craft beers and delivers, “An Education in the Art of Food & Beer.” And what a fun place it is!

Look around, and you’ll see so many items paying tribute to the learning process. Encyclopedias, multiplication tables, and some illuminated globes are only a few of the things enhancing their cool décor.

This is a gregarious place, and it starts with their Happy Hour from 3-7pm daily. Cleverly entitled “Recess” it boasts a wide selection of groovy bites, all easily shared. They have recently added a few new items as well, including Queso Fundido, Popcorn Shrimp, Reuben Sandwich and Beech Mushroom Flatbread.

We sampled a few of these along with some of our favorites from their Recess Menu, and braced ourselves with a couple of IPAs.

I’ve had their Deviled Eggs before, and they’re still one of my favorites. The Popcorn Shrimp added a nice zing, and thankfully, the seafood wasn’t too crisp or heavily fried.

I’m not a huge fan of corned beef, but their dense Reuben Sandwich delivered a tasty surprise, amply flanked with some delicious fries.

We both loved their 2x2x2 Sliders as well with caramelized onions and stuffed with a generous amount of beef. Some of their additional “Recess” items include the tempting Ahi Tuna Poke, Crispy Naked Wings, and PB&J Sliders.

Public School utilizes ingredients sourced from local Farmer’s Markets whenever possible. Their eclectic, seasonal menu includes favorites such as the BBQ Bison Burger, and Roasted Poblano with Quinoa. Our neighbors raved about their Bacon Cheddar Tots, which are enormously popular.

For those not wanting beer, their bar features a vast selection of seasonal artisanal cocktails and sommelier-selected wines.

If you had trouble in school growing up, you might want to go back and repeat a few classes at Public School, where you will pass with flying colors!
