Scam Alert: 3 Tips To Avoid COVID-19 Vaccine Scams

CULVER CITY, CA — As efforts to immunize the community ramp up, Culver City officials are sharing how you can avoid COVID-19 vaccine scams.

Here are three tips from the Federal Trade Commission on how to watch out for vaccine-related scams:

1. You cannot pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine. That’s a scam.
2. You cannot pay to get early access to the vaccine. That’s a scam.
3. Nobody legit will call, text, or email you about the vaccine and ask for your Social Security, bank account, or credit card numbers. That’s a scam.

People should not pay for a promise of vaccine access or share their personal information, the FTC reports. Instead, they should report the scam to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or file a complaint with their state or territorial attorney general through consumerresources.org(link is external), the consumer website of the National Association of Attorneys General.
