CULVER CITY, CA — Movie magic could be back soon in Culver City. As vaccines ramp up and coronavirus case rates drop, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that staff members can begin their return to the lot starting June 1.

The Culver City studio aims to ramp up full production by Labor Day, Variety reports.

“In preparation for this next phase, we are putting in place additional safety measures including an enhanced cleaning regimen, upgraded air conditioning filters, UV lighting inside air conditioning equipment where possible, and increased outside air circulation,” Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra said in a memo.

The company has plans for a phased reopening and different health protocols planned.

Throughout the pandemic, resuming production and filming has been a complicated process. Other companies are slowly opting to their offices, including Walt Disney Co.

It could be a sign of moving forward, as FilmLA, which provides film permitting across the city, is now accepting permits to film on location, the group announced March 10.
