California's Great America Will Not Reopen In 2020: It's Official
The Santa Clara amusement park to stay closed for remainder of year due to COVID-19, which means no Halloween Haunt & Great Pumpkin Fest.

SANTA CLARA, CA — Due to the coronavirus pandemic, California’s Great America in Santa Clara will remain shut down for the remainder of 2020, which includes the cancellation of such annual events as the Halloween Haunt, the Great Pumpkin Fest and the holiday-season Winterfest, company officials announced today.
“We are disappointed that we are unable to welcome our guests back to the park this season,” said Manny Gonzalez, vice president and general manager of the Silicon Valley-based amusement park, adding that “the safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority."
The decision was arrived at, in part, due to the diminishing number of calendar days left in the 2020 operating season, coupled with "limited visibility from state and local officials as to when a park opening is possible," management said.

"Although we have done our due diligence in developing a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with industry and public health standards, the continued uncertainty in our region brought by COVID-19 has led us to the difficult, yet responsible, decision to keep the park closed for the rest of the year," Gonzalez said.
Park officials said sights now are set on the 2021 season with planned new attractions and entertainment, including the debut of an all-new waterpark, South Bay Shores, featuring seven water attractions, new food menus, cabanas and a family-friendly lagoon with eight kid-sized water slides.

California’s Great America previously extended the validity of 2020 Season Passes through 2021. Now, passholders also will receive a "Pass Perks" Loyalty Reward valid for next season's purchases within the park, management said. Season passes for 2021 will go on sale Sept. 8.
