Caltrain Service Resumes After Overpass Incident

Santa Clara police requested Caltrain hold trains due to the incident Monday — resulting in a 40-minute delay for affected trains.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — Santa Clara police authorized Caltrain to resume normal operations Monday after responding to a call of a distraught woman at the overpass of De La Cruz Boulevard, according to a police spokesman. Capt. Wahid Kazem said the woman was comforted by county mental health experts and was being taken in for treatment.

Caltrain began reporting delays at 2:24 p.m. Monday because of the incident. Police requested Caltrain hold northbound train 155 at Santa Clara, northbound train 257 at Diridon and southbound train 150 at Lawrence, the agency reported on Twitter.

Police cars blocked an on-ramp by De La Cruz Boulevard until the situation was resolved.

At 3:07 p.m., Caltrain officials said they'd received word from Santa Clara PD that the agency could resume service. The three affected trains were running about 40 minutes behind schedule, according to Caltrain's Twitter account.
