Child Actresses Sought For Role In Broadway San Jose's 'Waitress'

Two girls, no older than 5 years and 3 months, needed to fill role of "Lulu" in the Tony Award–nominated musical. No prior acting required.

SAN JOSE, CA — "The Search for Lulu" is on.

"Waitress," the Tony Award–nominated musical that tells the story of "Jenna," a diner's pie baker stuck in a loveless marriage, will be staged for a one-week engagement at San Jose’s Center for the Performing Arts from Dec. 17 to Dec. 22.

Jenna's "salvation" is her daughter, Lulu, a sweet, carefree child who appears in the production's final scene. The Broadway San Jose performances are in need of two Lulus, and auditions are set for Monday, Oct.. 28 with sign-ups underway.

Qualified girls should be shorter than 4 feet 2 inches and be no older than 5 years and 3 months. Individual applicants are welcome, as are sets of twins or siblings, producers said. Space is limited to the first 45 applicants. Follow this link to register.

Auditions will begin at 10 a.m. at Children’s Musical Theater San Jose, 1401 Parkmoor Ave., Suite 100, San Jose, and will consist of the child repeating two lines from the show, organizers said. If possible, parents should bring a current headshot and resume for their daughters, but no headshots, resumes or prior acting experience are required.

In the current "Waitress" traveling production, the Lulu character is cast locally in the various markets with two girls chosen to share the role — each child appearing in four performances.
