Child Injured By Mountain Lion In Rancho San Antonio Park

Rancho San Antonio County Park has been shut down after a child was injured in an attack by an apparent mountain lion, officials said.

CUPERTINO, CA — A child was injured Sunday morning after being attacked by an apparent mountain lion in Rancho San Antonio County Park and Open Space Preserve, prompting officials to shut the park down. The park remained closed as of Monday.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, a park ranger gave first aid to the child, who had been walking on a trail about two miles from the main parking lot when the attack happened, the Midpeninsula Open Space District said in a statement on its website.

The animal, thought to be a mountain lion, was scared away by adults who were with the child. The child was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
