Community Players Present Mulan Jr In Sunnyvale

Packed with messages of women's empowerment, the play features young local actors from Los Altos and Mountain View.

SUNNYVALE - Young, local talent will be up on stage beginning Friday night as the Sunnyvale Community Players present Mulan Jr, a play said to be “packed with messages of women empowerment ... and an inspiration to girls around the world.”

Featuring a score with such modern classics as “Reflection,” “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” and ”Written in Stone,” the musical guides theatre-goers through Mulan’s heroic journey of self discovery as she becomes a warrior to protect her father and save the emperor of ancient China.

She talked about the messages of women empowerment in this show. “Looking back, nothing shaped me more than the idea I had a power inside of me, even though I felt small,” said Goto. “I don’t think girls get to hear often enough that they are strong; not just that they have to be strong, or can be, but that they are.”

Caitlin Devenney (who plays Mushu) and Daniela Gloster (who plays Shang) are Mountain View child actors who also star in the production.

Disney’s Mulan Jr opens on Friday, February 19 with the Tiger cast and Saturday, February 20 with the Monkey cast. A gala will follow both opening nights. The show runs through Sunday, March 6, 2016.

All performances will take place at the Sunnyvale Theatre at the Sunnyvale Community Center at 550 E. Remington Drive, Sunnyvale, CA.

Content is appropriate for children of all ages. Ticket prices are $22 for adults, $19 for seniors (60+) and students, and $12 for children 5 and under. These prices include a $3 service charge.
