Competitive Congressional Debate and Speech for 4-5th Graders

on Tuesday 4-6pm or Saturday 2-4pm in Saratoga at 13718 Saratoga Ave

Young Genius, Bay Area Speech and Debate Academy's Competitive Congressional Debate and Speech class focuses on preparing students for upcoming elementary and middle school speech and debate tournaments held around the Bay Area and introduces to them Congressional Debate and competitive speech formats.

Congressional Debate is an event offered in High School Forensics. The goal is to simulate the U.S. Congress, either the House or the Senate and debate bills and resolutions of current interest. The competitive format is 10 to 12 students in a room delivering speeches and asking questions of each other.
Also the instructor will cover the major formats of speech in the categories of Interpretation, memorizing and presenting a previously published piece of work or Original Oratory, where students work on composing and presenting an original piece. The instructor will evaluate each students strengths and pick a format that best suits the student.
All of the speech formats the students will learn at Bay Area Debate are high school formats; thus, the students can comfortably continue competing in speech events once they reach high school and college.
