Cupertino Man Arrested, Accused Of SJ State Shooting: Police

San Jose detectives followed up on tips leading to the suspect who was wanted on multiple charges of firing a gun at the campus library.

CUPERTINO, CA — A 21-year-old Cupertino man was arrested Sunday in connection with the shooting at San Jose State University from three days prior to the booking, the San Jose Police Department reported.

Detectives followed-up on a tip that led to the suspect, Joseph "Joey" Vicencio, who was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of the incident in which he was charged for felony shooting, attempted murder as well as possession of and assault with a firearm with gross negligence.

Police officers responded to the shooting called in at about 6:21 p.m. in the 100 block of East San Fernando Street in San Jose. Officers arrived on scene at the campus and located property damage to a parking structure and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library. An unknown suspect shot multiple rounds from a firearm in multiple directions. No victims were located.

After canvassing the area and talking to witnesses, San Jose police detectives obtained photos of a "person of interest" seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
