Free Black Holes Talk To Be Given By Berkeley Expert
A free, non-technical talk on black holes will be given Wednesday at Foothill College in Los Altos by a UC Berkeley professor.
LOS ALTOS, CA — A free, non-technical and illustrated talk on black holes will be given Wednesday at Foothill College in Los Altos, a professor emeritus of the college announced.
The talk will be given at 7 p.m. in the college's Smithwick Theatre by Eliot Quataert, a University of California at Berkeley professor of astronomy and physics. Quataert is also the director of the Theoretical Astrophysics Center.
Last spring, the Event Horizon Telescope released the first image of gas surrounding a black hole and the gas's shadow as it swirls into the hole. Quataert will talk about what this has taught scientists about black holes and how the images were captured.
