Goodnight, Moon

The next "super moon" won't be until Aug. 14, 2014! Would you like to share the shots you got of this one?

Written by Joan S. Dentler

Did you see it? Last night's "supermoon" was truly something to behold. And the Bay Area summer fog billowing across its face later in the evening gave it an ethereal quality.

Thank you to Eric Dentler for always having his camera (and tripod and book on nighttime photography) at the ready.  If you, too photographed the  moon, feel free to share it with Patch! With notes, if you have them.

Here are the stats on Saturday/Sunday's bella luna (and the accompanying photograph):

Full supermoon - closest to earth all year at 221,824 miles. Lumix GH3: ISO 200, 189 mm, -3 EV, f/6.3, 1/640.

According to EarthSky.org, the super moon was its fullest in the west at 4:32 a.m. Sunday, June 23, but it appeared full the evening of Saturday, June 22 as well.

The timeanddate.com website says moonrise will occur in the Bay Area just before 9 p.m. Sunday.

The moon will be 221,824 miles away from us, according to the Astronomy magazine's website, making it appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter to the naked eye.

The next super moonhttp://belmont-ca.patch.com/groups/editors-picks/p/dont-miss-the-super-moon-sundaybiggest-luna-of-2013_bee984a8 phenomenon occurs in July, but you won't see the luna this large until Aug. 10, 2014, according to EarthSky.org.
