UPDATE: Power Restored to Majority of Affected Cupertino Customers

Written by Claudia Cruz

Thousands of Cupertino households and businesses spent several hours Thursday during the mid-day without power, according to Pacific Gas & Power.

PG&E's online power outage map at 1:30 p.m. showed that nearly 2,666 customers were without electricity from an outage that began at 11:19 a.m. By 2:22 p.m., all but one customer had power again. According a PG&E spokeswoman, the original number of impacted customers was 3,131.

"The cause of the outage was underground equipment failure," she said. "Homes and business in Cupertino and Sunnyvale were impacted and there's no specific street names given."

Local sources told Patch that businesses had to close their doors because they just couldn't operate. They also saw a PG&E vehicle near their home.

Patch will update this story with the cause of the outage when the information becomes available.
