“We are creating new channels of inclusivity, and this celebration is a historic landmark for Rotary District 5170,” said Ramesh Hariharan, District Governor 5170.

“The LGBTQ community has needs like other groups and now an official part of Rotary International is a matter of pride to all our members and allows us to use all the great resources available from Rotary,” said Charlie Wasser, president and one of the founders of the Rotary SV Rainbow Club, and Chairman of the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

The Rotary Silicon Valley Rainbow Club has already embarked on multiple projects in support of the community. Community service projects include:

  • A fundraiser for the LGBTQ Youth Space in San Jose
  • Clothing donations to the Bill Wilson Center for homeless youth
  • The club members deliver meals to the New Haven Homeless Shelter serving members of the LGBTQ community that are homeless.
  • There is a large club effort creating the event termed “Rainbow over the Valley” which is in effect a “gay day celebration” at the Santa Clara County Fair in August 2020. The event will include information booths about LGBTQ organizations, entertainment by LGBTQ entertainers, and dance music.
