SANTA CLARA, CA — Police in the South Bay arrested a man on suspicion of burglarizing a mail room inside an apartment complex in Santa Clara on Thursday afternoon.

The Santa Clara Police Department announced on Friday that the man was taken into custody after an hours-long search found him hiding in a small closet. He surrendered voluntarily to officers, according to police.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect on Thursday opening several mailboxes inside a mail room at the 1600 block of Nantucket Circle, where the Nantucket Apartments are located. The suspect reportedly used a pry tool to open mailboxes. A photo provided by the police department shows several mailboxes open and boxes and wrapping strewn all over the floor in the mail room.
