Teens Compete in an Iron Chef-Like Event at Cupertino Community Hall

Given a set of ingredients and limited time, two teams competed Iron Chef-style.

Given simple ingredients, a knife and cutting board, but no stove, and 30 minutes to create delicious dishes two groups of Cupertino teens competed in a Teen Iron Chef competition on March 17.

Among the contestants was Cupertino’s own cooking vlogger, and Patch blogger, The Green Beanie (TGB).

“He gave some instructions, but otherwise it was up to us and out team to impress him. You had to be creative and it was fun,” TGB said.

The event at Cupertino Community Hall was hosted by Cupertino Library and "The Culinary Dude" Scott Davis.

Davis, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu-California Culinary Academy, was the cooking instructor and curriculum planner at Whole Foods Market in Los Altos, and In The Kitchen Culinary in Sausalito. He also had stints as head chef Baby Blues BBQ in Los Angeles, and San Francisco's Olive Bar and Restaurant.

He has a private catering business as well as teaches cooking classes to kids and adults throughout the Bay Area.

TGB is a Cupertino teen who also teaches cooking through YouTube videos. Her particular twist on recipes is to make them lower in fat and calories while maintaining loads of flavor and interest.

Her brother, Jasper, shot the video of the Teen Iron Chef and shoots the video for TGB’s vlog as well.
