Watch the Flying Fingers on Gu-Zheng Players

Young, poised and flitting fingers were the standouts of two local girls who entertained the Cupertino Rotary at the Quinlan Center recently.

Lucy Liu, who performed at the American Tea Culture Association’s 10th anniversary tea ceremony at Quinlan Center in 2011, had alongside her Jocelyn Wang who explained the Chinese string instrument and how it is played.

Similar to a harp, the gu-zheng strings span horizontally on an oblong wood base, rather than lining up vertically in a stand-up frame. A gu-zheng player sits at the instrument as a pianist would.

The girls performed as part of the Chinese New Year celebration at the Rotary's meeting where several members wore red, the traditional new year color.
