The Cupertino Sustainability Commission is hosting an essay contest for youngsters to share their thoughts. And, there's money in it.

CUPERTINO, CA -- What does the environment mean to you, kids?

The Cupertino Sustainability Commission has announced the Sustainability Essay Contest.

The commission is working in conjunction with the Cupertino Union School District to request students in grades 6 through 8 to submit an essay expressing their concerns and ideas about sustainability problems in Cupertino.

Sustainable means the ability to be maintained at a certain level. In modern times, the environmental movement has adopted the catch word to characterize eco-friendly factors that influence the environment.

The Sustainability Commission will select one winner per grade to receive a monetary award of up to $100. The essay deadline is March 7. Learn more about it or download the application at cupertino.org/essaycontest.
