Construction Underway On Low-Income Apartments In Danville

The project will make apartments available to very low-income qualifying households.

DANVILLE, CA — A 144-unit affordable housing apartment project that was approved by the Danville Town Council in 2017 is breaking ground, it was announced Tuesday. The $90-million Alexan Downtown Danville project is situated on 3.75 acres at 375 Diablo Road. It is expected to be completed in summer 2020.

“This is the first apartment development of scale that has been approved by the Town of Danville in decades," said Bruce Dorfman of Trammel Crow Residential, the project developer. "Danville is one of the East Bay’s most prestigious and supply-constrained communities. The existing apartment stock is very limited and ... renters have very few options.”

The project, located within walking distance of Danville’s Historic Downtown District, will make apartments available to very low-income qualifying households. According to Town of Danville documents, potential renters will need to show they make less than 50 percent of the published median income for Contra Costa and Alameda county areas, adjusted for household size. Rents will be set to ensure housing expenses don't exceed 30 percent of a family's gross household income, the documents show.
