Clients ‘Splash Around’ in Pilates Studio, Later Shut for Flooding Repairs
Julian Littleford, a Pilates pioneer, says his 20-year-old Del Mar studio should be back Tuesday.

Julian Littleford has operated his Pilates studio in Del Mar for 20 years, but this weekend he was rained out—or more accurately flooded out.
“With any luck, we should be operational” on Tuesday, he said Saturday morning. The studio is at 2010 Jimmy Durante Blvd.
A native of London who once was principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Littleford is one of the pioneers of Pilates and has taught the exercise regimen for 36 years, he said.

He said his landlord is working with him to bring J.L. Body Conditioning Pilates back to speed after Friday morning’s rains soaked a space in his studio and forced cancellation of sessions with about 30 customers Saturday and Monday.
Littleford, 52, says he won’t know if the 10-foot plywood frames for his drills are damaged until the carpet dries out. Fans were working full blast this weekend.

He said the damage was “nothing major,” and clients were able to “splash around” Friday for a time amid the water.
Del Mar had 1.32 inches of rain Friday, according to AccuWeather.com figures in U-T San Diego.
