22 South Pointe Students Play in All-State Honor Band

Over 1500 applicants statewide auditioned for the middle school All-State Honor Band and 22 from South Pointe Middle School were selected. The band will play Feb. 19 and 20 in Fresno.

A total of 22 students from South Pointe Middle School were selected to play in this year's All-State Honor Band at concerts in Fresno on Feb. 19 and 20.

Over 1,500 students auditioned for a seat in the band made up of seventh- and eight-grade students.

Seven of the South Pointe musicians earned the additional distinction of taking first chair for their respective instruments in the band.
 
The students went through two days of rehearsals before concerts on February 19 and 20 in Fresno. 

The band is led by Director Susan Willmering.
 
Students named to the elite group are: Aerik Bertulfo, Jessica Chu, Sophia Deng, Samuel Doong, Kevin Gao, Melody Guo, Brian Jan, Jasmine Jan, Jasmine Koo, O’Conner Langi, Phillip Lee, Joanne Lin, Brian Lucero, Bridget Pei, Derek Peng, Kahayla Rapolla, April Song, Dianne-Marie Tapit, Leila Tou, Joey Wang, Nicole Yamashiro, and Brain Yu.
