POMONA, CA — A house fire in Pomona killed six dogs early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

LA County firefighters arrived at the home, fully engulfed in flames, near Park and McKinley avenues before 1:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze about an hour later, LA County Fire Battalion Chief Michael McCormick reported.

At least six small dogs, all believed to be Shih Tzus, were found deceased inside the home, KTLA reported. A woman who told reporters she lived on the property for 39 years told reporters that "the heater blew up.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of this report.

Three residents evacuated the home safely, and no one was injured battling the blaze.
