A City Birthday Legacy Lives On

Al Rumpilla, a devotee of the Diamond Bar Birthday celebration and the city, was remembered by his family and the community by his signature hat.

Measuring the years can be a challenge. 

But by the weight of the late Al Rumpilla's baseball cap — which has a pin from every birthday party in the city's history — 22 years in Diamond Bar weighs somewhere around 7 pounds. 

"And my dad used to wear that," Al's son Dean said at Saturday's birthday celebration.

Al's family remembered their father at Saturday's 22nd city birthday party with the addition of yet another pin, and the family even lent the hat to the Diamond Bar Historical Society for part of the day.
