Castle Rock Elementary Studies Family History

Castle Rock students investigated personal family histories and artifacts to study the influence of the past on the present.

Castle Rock Elementary made the old into the new this month, investigating their personal and family histories to explore the past's influence on the present.

Students brought in family artifacts on Dec. 9 as part of a classroom museum exhibit that compared around 80 artifacts with their modern counterpart.

"Our 2nd grade teachers were amazed and pleased that students were able to ask questions and independently research their artifacts making connections to the past," 2nd grade teacher Jody Brown said.

This "Back to the Future" unit brought out a variety of antiques like a century-old stamp dispenser, a shaving brush and mug, and an old-fashioned glass milk bottle.

"I'm always amazed at the variety of items brought in by our students for this event," Principal Jackie Brown said. "They learn so much about their own family history — and then happily share it with classmates and visitors to the museum."
