DB Performer Takes on Role of Dorothy in Musical 'The Wiz'

The Diamond Bar performer Mariah Wilson will be taking on the lead role of Dorothy in a production of the musical 'The Wiz' at the Whittier Center Theater Friday and Saturday night.

Diamond Bar resident and multi-talented entertainer Mariah Wilson will be taking a break from her pep rally tour to take the lead as Dorothy in a performance of the musical "The Wiz" in Whitter Friday and Saturday.

Wilson's pep tour brought her to for a performance of her new single "My Baby," but Wilson will now be turning back the clock to take the role of Dorothy in The Wiz, a role played by Diana Ross in a feature film based on the Broadway musical.

"It was very important to me to be apart of this production because this Broadway Musical represents the African-American Culture and our contributions to the Arts," Wilson said.

Wilson said the performers in the film — Lena Horne, Michael Jackson, and Richard Pryor — are some of her inspirations.

"I hope to make them proud," Wilson said.

Wilson also performed recently at as part of her Pep Rally Tour.

The performance of The Wiz will start on Friday at Saturday night at the Whittier Community Theater at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
