Ishida, Huezo Retire From Lorbeer, Diamond Ranch

After a combined 59 years with the Pomona Unified School District, Lorbeer Middle School teacher Sharon Ishida and Diamond Ranch office manager Julie Huezo retired this year and were awarded for having worked over 15 years at PUSD.

A long-time teacher and an office manager at and were honored by the Pomona Unified School district for careers spanning over 15 years at a meeting Wednesday night.

Sharon Ishida, an English teacher at Lorbeer, and Julie Huezo, an office manager at Diamond Ranch, have a combined 59 years at the district.

Derek Knowles of the district's personnel department delivered the awards to honor Huezo's 23-year tenure with the district and Ishida's 36 years.

"(Huezo) will be sorely missed," Knowles said.

Former Lorbeer Principal and the district's current Chief Academic Officer Stephanie Baker remembered her early years teaching alongside Ishida.

"Her classroom really celebrated students and their work," Baker said. "She has a passion, energy and creativity."

Baker said Ishida pursued ways to bring lessons out of the pages of books and into life with projects like the "PoeTees": T-shirts designed with poetry on them that students wore to bring verse into their everyday routines.

Before teaching at Lorbeer, Ishida taught in the district's adult education department, at , and Philadelphia Elementary.
