The following news release is courtesy of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department:
Each year, sworn and civilian employees, and volunteers, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department donate thousands of toys to children and families during the holidays.
Generous members of the public, businesses and charities also contribute annually and boost the number of toys, food, clothing, and personal item donations.
These toys and donations are given to local children in need, children who attend schools adopted by their local sheriff’s station, jail or courthouse, and children of members of the United States Armed Forces serving our Country overseas.
Over 59,000 toys were distributed last year and brightened the holiday of over 11,000 children! Food items were also donated and 281 families received nourishing food baskets. Success came with everyone working together to ensure as many kids and families as possible received even a little something to bring joy to their season.
If you would like to participate this year, we invite you to bring a new, non-giftwrapped toy which has a value of at least $10.00 and is appropriate for children between the ages of one and 16 years. Bring your thoughtful gift to any of our patrol stations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and leave them in the clearly-marked bins in the lobbies.
We ask that the donations be made prior to Saturday, December 14, 2013, so they may be organized and distributed in time for the holiday, but we will gladly accept toys through Tuesday, December 24, 2013.
