Pomona Unified Shares Student Work

Diamond Bar's Pomona Unified schools held open houses throughout last week to mark the close of the school year and showcase student work.

Immediate community was the watchword for first grade teacher Nancy Nakamura's class this year.

On Thursday, the class took their state standards into the real world, exploring Diamond Bar and its environs by bus, stopping at Costco for lunch, , and .

"The goal was to show them around the community," Nakamura said.

On Friday, at the school's open house and silent auction, the gaol was to show the community the work of the school.

Throughout the Pomona Unified School District, student work was on display last week as the school year comes to a close.

On Thursday, held its open house and silent auction, which raised $2,600 Principal Alan Pantanini said.

"Our open house was awesome," Pantanini said. "We had about 1,000 students and family members."

Pantanini said the fund raised will benefit the school's library to purchase new equipment, books, and transition to Accelerated Reader software.
