Sycamore Trail to Get Educational Nature Displays

Funding from a state grant and city parks improvement funds will provide Sycamore Canyon Park with new educational nature displays.

Sycamore Canyon Park will receive new nature education signs by spring of 2012 through a combination of state and city funds.

The new signs will be funded primarily through a $61,063 parks improvement grant from the California Natural Resources Agency and will be supplemented with $26,772 in municipal parks improvement money.

The City Council approved the local expenses May 17 in order to complete the grant process, which will match funds put up by the city.

“Our hope is that this new signage will not only add to every trail user’s experience, but also serve as a reminder to park visitors that we all play an important part in the preservation of our natural resources,” Community Services Director Bob Rose said in a statement about the new park signs.

The improvement plans will also add trash cans and benches along the trail. Construction is expected to begin mid-winter this year and be completed by spring of 2012.
