All Solano County Residents Eligible for Prescription Drug Discounts

FAIRFIELD, CA- Solano County is joining 30 other counties in the state that offer a prescription drug discount program. Members of the county's Board of Supervisors planned to join other officials today at noon in Fairfield to announce the county's participation in the Coast2Coast Rx program.

The Coast2Coast Rx prescription discount card will allow residents, regardless of age, income and health status, to save on the cost of their prescriptions. County officials said the program saved participants nationwide an average of 65 percent on the cost of prescription drugs in 2015. The card is free and may be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in Solano County. Anyone in California can use the card, which includes 60,000 drugs in its formulary, county officials said.

"There are no eligibility requirements so the Rx card is expected to have a sizeable impact on uninsured residents or residents facing high insurance deductibles," Board of Supervisors chair Erin Hannigan said in a statement. "If a particular drug isn't covered under a person's health plan, they can use the card to save on those prescriptions," Hannigan said.

The savings under the program come at no cost to Solano County, and Coast2Coast Rx pays the county a royalty of $1.25 per prescription without increasing the cost to the cardholder, county officials said.

The card also provides discounts on dental and vision care, hearing aids and supplies and discounts for lab and imaging tests. The Coast2Coast Rx card will be available at most participating pharmacies, government offices, libraries and Solano County health facilities.
