CHP Airplane Crew Finds Suspect Hiding Out In Vacaville Backyard

During the manhunt, police called for precautionary lockdowns at some schools.

VACAVILLE, CA — A person wanted in connection with a car-theft investigation in Vacaville was found in the backyard of a home thanks to a California Highway Patrol airplane crew. CHP's Air-31 responded Tuesday to assist the Vacaville Police Department in locating the suspect.

Upon finding the wanted person hiding out in a backyard, the Air-31 crew directed Vacaville officers to the suspect's location while continuing to follow the suspect from above.

The suspect was arrested a short time later, CHP-Golden Gate Division said in a social media post about the incident.

According to Vacaville police, the suspect ran away from officers when it was discovered that the car he was in had been reported stolen in the Bay Area.

A manhunt ensued.

Vacaville police called for the lockdown of some schools as multiple officers descended on the area of Merchant Street, Alamo Drive, Camellia Way, Azalea Way, Orchard Avenue and Lovers Lane.

At 12:16 p.m. Tuesday, Vacaville PD said via social media the suspect was in custody.
