At one point during the recent Safeway Open in Napa, Dixon's Nick Watney was in second place on the leaderboard.
NORTH BAY, CA — PGA golfer Nick Watney, a Dixon, California resident, enjoyed playing close to home in the recent Safeway Open, held Sept. 26-29 at Silverado Resort in Napa.
Watney especially shined on day two of the tournament; he started Friday at 3-under par and climbed his way to 10-under par to be in second place on the leaderboard.
During Sunday's final round of the Safeway Open, Watney hit eight of 14 fairways and 12 of 18 greens in regulation for a great day on the green, leaving no misses on putts within 10 feet.

Players enjoyed near-perfect weather conditions — overcast in the morning, a slight breeze in the afternoon —on the north course of the Silverado Resort and Spa.
The crowds were good-sized, spread out over the course. New-home construction can be seen in the hills just beyond the Silverado Resort as residents rebuild after losing their homes in the devastating October 2017 wildfires.

Watney, 38, finished the Safeway Open in the Top 10, tying for 10th place at 11-under par.
It was his best performance this season; the Davis High School alum was cut Friday following round two of the Shriners Open in Las Vegas, Nevada.
